"Not knowing is olive. Not knowing looks like a hole. Not knowing smells like garbage. Not knowing tastes like olives soaked in vodka. Not knowing sounds like stretching tires. Not knowing feels like stepping into mud with bare feet. Not knowing comes from burying my head in the sand. Having sight is also olive. Having sight looks like a lake. Having sight smells like Neutrogena Body Wash. Having sight tastes like cucumber water. Having sight sounds like a concert. Having sight feels like heat. Having sight comes from opening up my eyes." - me #poem #art #arttherapy #sight #cucumberwater #martini #Neutrogena

I made a painting of a young boy holding a machine gun. I saw too many young boys recruited to fight" #Afghanistan #art #arttherapy #usaf #machinegun #tequila #lasvegas #pool #shots #deployment

Cindi, from Seattle, didn't know what to draw, so I suggested that she close her eyes and draw with her non-dominant hand. "That was surprising and lead to an unexpected result. Also, perfection wasn't an option and I had to just deal with that. This became all about love and self awareness. I think this drawing is telling me that I need to focus more on people and less on being perfect." #nondominanthand #drawing #perfectionist #arttherapy #love #selfawareness #justdealwithit

Taylor, front desk receptionist @HolidayInn Portland, OR, was doodling when I arrived to check into my hotel "Do you want a career that would be art related?" -me "No. I think that would take the fun out of it. "I want to go into medicine and I believe that passion sometimes puts our hearts above our brains. But, the down side is that many doctors become motivated by the money, and that is why I made the surgical mask a dollar bill. Almost like money is censoring personal expression." -Tom, a #neuroscience student at #NYU "The irony is that the surgical mask is meant to protect from germs and paper money is one of the dirties things.
